I think it speaks to the fact that Snape was fucking mean that Neville’s worst fear was not Bellatrix Lestrange, the person who tortured his parents until they could no longer remember who they were or even Voldemort, whose name the act was committed in, but his school teacher who bullied him nine months at a time for years on end.
I never really thought about that until now.

I enjoy Snape AS A CHARACTER. As in, his character is layered and evokes lots of emotional responses. I love Umbridge in this sense, too, because she, as words on a freaking page, is able to blind me with rage. She’s a brilliant character. Does that mean I would want to be Snape’s or Umbridge’s best friend? DEAR GOD NO.
